The aim of a safe change bag is to facilitate the safe movement of medical matter. This may be used for safely moving items into a sterile environment or removing them safely from a sterile environment. The transferal of waste products requires a specialist system to ensure the unit remains air-tight at all times.
The Safe Change Bag is a sealed mechanism which allows for an item to move through the air-tight system. As an example consider a sterile bandage which needs to be be passed into the isolation chamber. Externally, the bandage is placed into the Safe Change Bag, which is then sealed to the outside. Once inside the hygienic safe change area the bag can be opened from the inside of the isolator which allows the patient to receive the bandage. The reverse process is adopted for the removal of the used bandage.
